Wednesday 23rd October – Chatter and Natter

Chatter and Natter tables are where customers can sit if they are happy to talk to other customers, often a volunteer normally hosts. At Old Town Artichoke, 55 High Street, Hemel Hempstead, HP1 3AF, Tuesday – Sunday from 9am – 4pm. Pop along between these times to attend a chatty table session.


Wednesday 23rd October – Open Mic Night

Enjoy a variety of different acts or if you have a talent (or just want to try) for singing or playing an instrument then come down and take part. Thursday 24th October – Gadespring Cressbeds Bird Hide: Open Day

Pop in and visit the bird hide at Gadespring Cressbeds, Old Fishery Lane, Hemel Hempstead, HP1 2BN, which overlooks one of the most active areas on the site. Thursdays from 10am – 12 noon. Form the bird hide, you can see kingfishers darting across the pond, and into the nesting bank, Moorhens nesting among the reeds, Heron fishing for frogs and fish, and many other little birds that visit the bird feeders. Gadespring Cressbeds is usually closed to the public, but volunteers host visitors at the bird hide for photography and bird watching, as well as the opportunity to meet other like-minded people at these open days. Every Thursday until 19th December.


Thursday 24th October – Games Night

Join The Green Man, Leverstock Green Road, Hemel Hempstead, HP3 8QE, for a night of fun and games Their Board Games Night is the perfect opportunity to gather with friends, old and new, and indulge in some friendly competition.

Get ready to roll the dice, strategize, and outwit your opponents as they provide a wide selection of board games for you to choose from. Whether you’re a seasoned gamer or just looking for a casual evening of entertainment, there’s something for everyone. Thursday 24th October – Halloween Quiz

Annual Halloween Speed quiz night at the Gade and Goose, Galley Hill, Gadebridge, Hemel Hempstead, HP1 3LB, It’s the usual quiz but with a spooky twist celebrating all things Halloween. Bonus points for every player dressed up for Halloween. £2 per player. Thursday 24th October from 8pm.


Friday 25th October – Active Rhyme Time

A 45 minute session of free fun, active rhymes and songs for your baby and toddler. A great way to meet other families and develop your child‘s communication and physical skills. Friday 25th October – Friday 8th November – Inflatable Monsters

Five giant inflatable monsters will be taking over Hemel Hempstead town centre. This vibrant art installation will transform the town into a quirky, illuminated spectacle, in a unique and magical display. The town will be illuminated by these extraordinary creatures, creating a playful and interactive experience for residents and visitors alike. This fun-filled art installation promises to transform Hemel Hempstead’s landscape, with the five colossal monsters each offering their own unique character and charm. As day turns to night, the creatures will light up, providing a spectacular show that’s sure to capture the imagination of people of all ages.


Saturday 26th October – Gadebridge Parkrun

Saturday 26th October – ParkPlay

ParkPlay is for all abilities to play together and connect in a relaxed, safe and welcoming environment. Park Play is a two-hour long play session of fun and games for everyone. Sunday 27th October – Gadespring Cressbeds Open Day

Gadespring Cressbeds open day, take a walk through this tranquil micro nature reserve, meet the volunteers who work hard to manage the site, learn about the history of the site as a working cressbed farm and take some time to observe the wildlife of the site in the bird hide. Sunday 27th October – In The Dead Of The Night

The story follows Lily, a young girl whose wild imagination conjures up fantastical monsters from the strange noises she hears in the middle of the night. Faceplant Theatres adaptation brings to life McBain’s spooky and heartfelt story through original songs, puppetry, and a dash of silliness. Tuesday 29th October – Meet the Halloween Animals

Come and meet the animals and creepy crawlies on Tuesday 29th October from 11am – 4pm, for some frightfully good fun and take on the trail for the chance to win a £100 voucher from The Entertainer. Join the Halloween Monster Trail in Hemel Town Centre for your chance to enter their prize draw. Find the 12 hidden monsters in shop windows across town, write down each monster’s name on your trail map, and drop your completed map in the entry box at the Marlowes Desk in the Shopping Centre. Pick up your Trail Sheets from the Marlowes.


Friday 1st November – Coffee Morning

Join this coffee morning on the first Friday of every month from 11am – 1pm Sometimes they host a quiz, sometimes a coffee morning, always guaranteed to leave feeling happy and full from tea and biscuits or coffee. Saturday 2nd November – Sunnyside Arts Fair

With some wonderful stalls offering art, crafts, homemade bakes, photography, live music, massage, reflexology, massage, palm reading, tarot, free singing and poetry workshops and so much more. Hosted at Sunnyside, Central Nursery, Two Waters Road, Hemel Hempstead, HP3 9BY, with their friendly Cafe and farm shop, this indoor arts fair has a real festival vibe. Saturday 2nd November from 11am – 4pm.


Sunday 3rd November – Hemel Old Town Market

This vibrant and popular market is held on the first Sunday of every month from 11am – 3pm. The market stalls will be located in St Marys Square, Under the Arches next to The Old Town Hall, in St Mary’s Church Hall and on the grassy area surrounding St Marys Church. 

Dacorum Borough Council restrict the traffic on market day so the High Street is closed to traffic between 10am – 4pm. If you are a blue badge holder, please show this to the gate operatives and they will allow you access. Pedestrian access to the market is unrestricted. There are plenty of car parks within a 2 minute walk of the market grounds. The public toilets in the High Street and in St Mary’s Church Hall will be open on the day.


Sunday 3rd November – Thanksgiving and Remembering Service

Come and join the gathered community as they give thanks and remember all those we have loved but see no longer. At this annual Thanksgiving and Remembering Service you will have the opportunity to hear the name of your loved one read out and light a candle in remembrance. Wednesday 6th November – Alzheimer’s Society Coffee Morning

Join Alzheimer’s Society for a monthly coffee mornings on the first Wednesday of each month from 10am – 12 noon. Come and chat to the team at The Marlowes Shopping Centre, Hemel Hempstead (located opposite The Entertainer), for a catch-up, or talk about any queries or concerns.


Wednesday 6th November – Diabetes Management Event 

Join Communities 1st at their free diabetes management event in Broxbourne which will be jam-packed with information, advice and activities for you to enjoy. Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust will be providing diabetic eye screening at this event. Speak with health professionals about your eye health and blood pressure, find out about dentistry, podiatry, nutrition and other diabetes-related support, visit a range of informative stalls and participate in cookery demonstrations and activities. Thursday 7th November – Square Dance Taster Session

Free Taster Sessions on the first Thursday of every month from 8pm – 10pm, at Highfield Community Centre, Fletcher Way, Bellgate, Hemel Hempstead, HP2 5SB. Saturday 9th November – TrackPlay

A fun and entertaining time for kids who love trains. With over 500 feet of Track and over 100 Thomas and his friends trains to choose from. Kids will be raving about the experience for a long time . Book a time slot to suit and then on the day sit back and enjoy a hot drink whilst the kids all have fun with trains. Sunday 10th November – Remembrance Sunday

You are invited to join with the local community of Adeyfield as they remember the sacrifice of all those that have died in conflicts past and pray for peace today. The service will include a series of readings, prayers, songs, and a two-minute silence at 11am. Afterwards there is an invitation to stay and share refreshments and community. Sunday 10th November – Remembrance Parade

This annual Remembrance Parade will be taking place in Hemel Hempstead. The event is being organised in partnership with the Hemel Hempstead branch of the Royal British Legion. The Parade will march from Hemel Hempstead town centre at around 10.30am, and conclude at the War Memorial at St John’s Church, Boxmoor, where an outdoor service will be held. Any ex-service personnel wishing to join in the Parade would be extremely welcome. Please gather at the Rainbow Stage in the Marlowes by 10.15am on the Sunday if you would like to take part.


Tuesday 12th November – Chess Night

Come join Fishery Wharf Cafe, Fishery Lock, Fishery Road, Hemel Hempstead, HP1 1NA, for an evening of Chess, bring a board or just bring yourself and join in on a game, All levels of play are welcome. Drop in for Chess or other games from their cafe games cupboard every second Tuesday of the month from 6pm -10pm. The bar will be open for hot drinks and cakes, beers wine etc.


Friday 15th November – The Local Heritage Fire Service

Factual and anecdotal presentation by two former paper mill firemen and members of the Frogmore Paper Mill Heritage Fire Brigade. Peter Hailes and Paul Sturman have a knowledge not just of fire, but of the history of the area which will astound you. Paul is a fourth generation fireman once based at Home Park paper mill, which once stood opposite Kings Langley Station. The ticket price includes a fish and chip supper. Tea and coffee will be served. This talk is held at The Cottage, Apsley Mills, Stationers Place, HP3 9RL. (Not Frogmor Mill). Saturday 16th November – Christmas Lights Switch-on

The event will feature a variety of festive activities starting from 11am, including walkabout acts, funfair rides, music, and Christmas characters. You can visit Santa in his grotto and ride a land train,. The grand finale will be the Christmas light switch-on followed by a firework display at 5.30pm. It is a great family-friendly event to kick off the holiday season.


Sunday 17th November – Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club

Open to all those who served, or who are still serving in HM Armed Forces. They meet on the 3rd Sunday of every month from 9.30am – 11.30am, at the The Full House, 128 Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead, HP1 1EZ.

The Old Town Hall’s resident company, the award-winning Dyad Productions, bring their magic to Dickens’ classic and perennially relevant ghost story. Step2Skills is delighted that their next job fair will be held at Everyone Active, Park Road, Hemel Hempstead, HP1 1JS. This Job Fair is aimed towards adult residents in Hemel Hempstead with learning and physical disabilities, sensory needs, neurodiversity and mental health conditions. Hemel Hempstead Old Town Christmas market on Sunday 1st December from 11am – 3pm. There will also be one held on Sunday 15th December form 12 noon – 4pm.


Sunday 1st December – Santa Dash

Start your festive activities with The Hospice of St Francis by taking part in their Santa Dash. Join the hundreds of people taking to the streets of Hemel Hempstead dressed in their festive gear, to help raise money for local people who have a serious illness such as cancer or who have a neurological, heart or lung condition.

You can run, walk or dance your way through the family festive fun run route from Riverside Shopping Centre, the centre of Hemel Hempstead, up through the historic Old Town, into Gadebridge Park and back again. Santa Dash is not timed, you can take it as quick or as slow as you like, as long as you have fun.

Thursday 19th December – Christmas Quiz Night

Join The Gade and Goose, Galley Hill, Gadebridge, Hemel Hempstead HP1 3LB, on Thursday 19th December from 8pm for the annual Christmas quiz night. Santa will be popping in for the 3rd year in a row. Mince pies will be on the tables again and the bingo afterwards will be very heavily Christmas and Christmas number 1 themed.


Wednesday 25th December – Christmas Day Lunch

The Apsley Foodbank team will once again be hosting Christmas Day lunch at St Mary’s Church, London Road, Apsley, Hemel Hempstead, HP3 9ST. Free of charge and anyone is welcome, but you must put your name down, either by speaking to Miriam at St Mary’s Foodbank or by phone/message on 07961 991 108.
