Friday 15th May – Lego Club

Come along for fun challenges that build problem solving skills, spatial awareness, and creative thinking. Suitable for children aged 5-11 years old. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. The sessions are only for ages 5 and over. At Hitchin Library, Paynes Park, Hitchin, SG5 1EW. Places are limited, book the library. Fridays from 4pm – 5pm.

Meeting at the Cycle Shelter at Hitchin Train Station, Walsworth Road, Hitchin, SG4 9UL. Take a step for your mental health. Friday from 6pm. Welcoming the men of Hitchin from various ethnic backgrounds and promoting the mental and physical health benefits of walking and talking. Next 5th and 19th June.


Sunday 17th May – Pinehill Junior Parkrun

A free, fun, and friendly weekly 2k event for juniors 4-14 year olds. The event takes place at Pinehill Park, off Chiltern Road, Hitchin, SG4 9PL. Every week they grab a post parkrun coffee in a local café. Sundays from 9am. For further information click here


Sunday 17th May – Free Compost Giveaway

North Herts’ green-fingered residents can come along and collect their share of 10-tonnes of nutrient-rich compost made at their garden waste processing plant in Hertfordshire. The compost is loose, so you must bring your own spades and containers to bag it up and take home. You can collect a maximum of two bags of compost per household, they want to make sure there is enough to go round. Please bring proof of your North Herts address (e.g. utility bill or council tax statement). Supply is limited, so please ensure you arrive promptly. Once the last spade-full is collected the gates will be closed. Sunday 17th May from 10am. At Westmill Community Centre car park, John Barker Place, Hitchin, SG5 2PG.


Sunday 17th May – Flea Market

Hitchin Market every Sunday. A great Car Boot alternative. Free to visit and open to anyone to trade at just £10 a pitch. Great facilities on site and free parking nearby. Starts early, closes at 1pm.


Sunday 17th May – Mum2mum Market

Come and shop pre loved, good condition all things baby, kids and maternity with 20 stalls to browse. Refreshments and snacks available. At Hitchin Boys school, Grammar School Walk, Hitchin, SG5 1JB. Sunday 17th May from 10.30am – 12.30pm.


Sunday 17th May – Walsworth Festival

Walsworth Festival at Walsworth Common, Hitchin for a fantastic day of community celebration. Best of all, entry is free. There will be something for everyone, including arena entertainment, food and drink, local stalls, classic car show, fairground rides and live music. Sunday 17th May from 10am – 4pm.


Sunday 17th May – Kidical Mass Ride

Come and join a fun, friendly, family based cycle ride around Hitchin. Riders of all abilities are welcome, although they would recommend a minimum independent rider age of 4 years old (the ride is ~2 miles). Younger children in bike seats/trailers/tag-alongs etc. are welcome. Bikes with stabilisers may be unsuitable due to the cobbled parts of the route. Adults are responsible for their own children and all Children under 16yrs old are to be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. Meet at the basketball courts at Ransoms Recreation ground in Hitchin (Grove road entrance) on Sunday 17th May at 10.30am, for a prompt start to the ride at 10.45am. Ride leaders and marshals will be there to guide the ride. All riders will be asked to provide their details (name, contact info, emergency contact), before the ride starts, as this is a requirement of insurance. The ride will end at Walsworth Common, where the annual Walsworth Common festival will be taking place (10am-4pm), with food stalls, live music, and events.


Monday 18th May –  General Knowledge Pub Quiz

General knowledge pub quiz at The Orange Tree, Stevenage Road, Hitchin, SG4 9DR. Every Monday from 8pm – 10pm, until at least the end of May.


Tuesday 19th May – Craftea

A monthly drop-in, open to everyone, bring your current craft project and have a chat over tea and coffee. Tuesday from 10.30am – 12 noon. At Hitchin Library, Paynes Park, Hitchin, SG5 1EW.


Tuesday 19th May – Chatty Cafe

The ‘Chatter and Natter table’ is a wonderful way of encouraging people of all ages to talk to others. Do come along and sit for a chat. At North Hertfordshire Museum, Brand Street, Hitchin, SG5 1JE. Their chatter and natter table is available during all of their cafe opening hours which are Tuesday- Saturday 10.30am – 3.30pm and 11am – 2pm on Sundays.


Tuesday 19th May – Museum Picks

North Hertfordshire Museum, Brand Street, Hitchin, SG5 1JE, benefits from the hard work of lots of other people in different roles, some working with the public and some behind the scenes, all striving to bring their programme of exhibitions and events to life. This exhibition brings their voice to you, where they will, in their own words, tell you all about the objects that inspire them from around the museum. This exhibition is in the Arches Display Space in their Terrace Gallery. Open Tuesday – Saturday, 10.30am – 4.30pm, Sunday 11am – 3pm. On until Sunday 14th June.


Saturday 23rd May – Hitchin Symphony Orchestra

Immerse yourself in the radiant world of Beethoven as Hitchin Symphony Orchestra presents two of his masterpieces, Symphony No. 6 in F major, Op. 68 ‘Pastoral’ Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61, with soloist Peter Bussereau. Wednesday 27th May – Chatty Cafe

Friday 29th May – Dawn Chorus

A guided early morning walk through Purwell Ninesprings, led by our Reserves Officer, Callum. As the sun rises, immerse yourself in the magical sounds of the dawn chorus echoing across the reserve’s varied habitats. The walk will take you past ponds and reedbeds, through wet meadow, and into tranquil woodland. Along the way, you can expect to hear a wonderful variety of birds, including warblers, reed buntings, little egrets, woodpeckers, song thrushes, and more. As you walk, you will have the chance to learn about their unique songs. This walk is suitable for ages 12+. Friday 29th May from 5am – 6.30am. To book click here


Saturday 30th May – Rainbow Craft Fair

Regular craft fair held at Church House, Hitchin, SG5 1HP. Each event has a variety of craft stall holders. Saturday 28th March from 11am – 4pm, free entry. Next 27th June.


Saturday 30th May – British Schools Museum Ghost Hunt

Experience a night of ghost hunting at the British Schools Museum, Hitchin, with Ghost Hunt Events on Saturday 30th May from 8pm – 2am. Participate in Séances, Vigils, Table tilting, Glass moving, Ouija boards, EVP Experiments, Automatic writing and much more. This is a serious overnight ghost hunt (paranormal investigation), and is conducted with a team of professional Mediums and paranormal investigators. They pride their selves on having small groups for each activity (usually three or four) and allowing you free time to explore the venue using some of the equipment towards the end of the night.
They can not guarantee spiritual or ghostly activity but they can guarantee that everything you experience will be 100% real.

Drop in to Hitchin Library, Paynes Park, Hitchin, SG5 1EW, on the first Tuesday of every month from 10.30am – 12 noon for a chat, make new friends over tea, coffee, biscuits and various activities.

Saturday 6th June – Churchyard Day

A showcase and celebration of Churchyard at 1A Churchyard, Hitchin SG5 1HR. With activities, offers and food and drink, this street day is full of wonderful businesses and activities for all to enjoy. Hitchin Rock Choir (3pm), The Corn Hill Alpacas, tours of the Church, Children’s entertainment, Swords of Penda – Children of Loki historical re-enactment. Food and drink, Monkey Music Hitchin, Shop Window Trail and Face painter.


Saturday 6th June – North Herts Pride Picnic

North Herts Pride Picnic on Saturday 6th June from 12 noon – 3pm. Bring a picnic to Windmil Hill, Hitchin, to celebrate pride. All Welcome.


Wednesday 10th June – Brush Party

Join Brush Party, the UK’s ‘Paint and Sip’ experts at The Old Red Lion, Kings Walden Road, Great Offley, Hitchin, SG5 3DZ, on Wednesday 10th June from 7pm – 10pm to create their fabulous theme Rainbow Bay. To book click here


Thursday 11th June – LGBTQ+ Group

Monthly get together for LGBTQ+ people of all ages, genders and sexualities. Queers and Peers Group is specifically for Hitchin people who identify as LGBTQ+. Second Thursday of the month from 7pm – 9pm, at North Herts Museum, Brand Street,  (Confirmed guests only must be registered), Hitchin, SG5 1BG.


Sunday 14th June – Summer Fete

An afternoon of family fun and community spirit at Fairfield Park Lower School, Dickens Boulevard, Hitchin, SG5 4FD. With performances to entertain all, Classic PTA fete games, exciting raffle prizes, delicious food and drinks, and fun with bouncy castles and more. Sunday 14th June from 12 noon – 3pm.

Join Visit Hitchin in supporting some of the amazing businesses, groups and charities by visiting their pop-up stalls at their Hidden Hitchin event on the Market Place. Saturday 20th June from 10am – 3pm.


Wednesday 24th June – Open Paddock Night

Come and join a peaceful evening, hand-feed friendly alpacas, watch the sunset from the field, perfect photo moments (they love selfies). Relax, unwind, and soak it all in at Mill Farm Barns, Charlton Road, Charlton, Hitchin, SG5 2AE. Entry: £3.50 per person. Alpaca feed bags: £1.50 each. Wednesday 24th June from 8pm – 9.30pm. Saturday 27th June – Vegan Market

As usual, this event will bring together an incredible selection of vegan street food vendors, artisan bakers, ethical jewellers, environmental charities and more. At Riverside, Hitchin, SG5 1AB. Saturday 27th June from 10.30am – 4pm.


On now until – Sunday 28th June – Dinosaurium: Reimagined Creatures Exhibition

This exhibition looks at the long history of our relationship with dinosaurs, from ancient legends of mythical winged beasts in the deserts of central Asia, to the creatures brought to life in Jurassic Park. Visitors can also learn about the animals that lived alongside the dinosaurs and are still here today, and discover the passion and dedication of the fossil hunters in this fun, family-friendly exhibition. Saturday 4th July – Supper and Ghost Hunt 

An unforgettable night of ghost hunting at The Sun Hotel. This 16th century coaching inn has welcomed travellers for centuries, but some say not all of it’s guests have ever checked out. With it’s ancient timber beams, winding staircases, and dimly lit corridors, The Sun Hotel provides the perfect backdrop for a truly immersive paranormal investigation. Over the years, guests and staff have reported unexplained cold spots, phantom footsteps echo though the empty hallways and objects mysteriously move. Come and join a night of food and paranormal fun. Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th July – Wartime at Walden

A grand WWII spectacle has been meticulously planned for Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th July. Attendees can look forward to immersive re-enactments, fascinating displays, and engaging activities that bring the wartime era to life. They will have living history encampments, military and civilian vehicles alongside WW2 model clubs and a selection of other wartime era displays.
Be part of this groundbreaking WWII living history event in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, offering vast spaces for encampments, impressive vehicle displays, and captivating demonstrations. There will be a dramatic battle re-enactment on both Saturday and Sunday, and evening entertainment, including a beer tent for the evening.


Saturday 11th July – Comic Con and Toy Fair 

A fun family friendly event full of all things film, comics, movie cars and artwork on display, trader area, cosplay, face painting and much more. Discover rare collectibles and meet fellow film and comic fans. Also come along to meet local talented artists and comic creators. There’s something here for everyone. They welcome you to come in costume and celebrate your favourite fandoms. Hitchin Comic Con is Sponsored by Worcester Lloyd Architects, Structural Engineers and Interior Designers. Saturday 11th July – Oakfest Fun Day

A full day of family fun, live entertainment, and something for everyone to enjoy. Free entry. Live circus shows throughout the day, live music, performances and DJ sets, artisan market and independent traders, great food and drink for all ages. Inflatables, activities and family fun. Also a spectacular family circus show by Circus Pazaz. Expect aerial acts, acrobatics, juggling, comedy and plenty of audience interaction in a 55-minute performance the whole family can enjoy. Monday 20th July – Monday 31st August – Hitchin Beach

The ever popular beach will be back on the Market Place for six weeks during the summer holidays! Running Monday 20th July – Monday 31st August from 10am – 4pm. Sands, buckets and spades, music and deck chairs will turn this part of Hitchin into the seaside. An exciting addition to this year’s Hitchin Beach is the free Hitchin Beach Time Stories sessions every Friday morning. These interactive story sessions are perfect for pre-school children to enjoy with their parent/carer and will be delivered by the wonderful teams from Hitchin Library and Next Page Books. 


Saturday 25th July – Letchworth Model Railway Society

Annual Exhibition at the Priory School, Bedford Road, Hitchin, SG5 2UR. Saturday 25th July from 10am – 4.30pm. Many traders and layouts. Free on-site parking. Admission £5. Accompanied children under 16 free entry. Refreshments and at the club sales stand.


Tuesday 28th July – Older Persons Activity, Learning and Safety

Older persons activity, learning and safety (OPALS) events are sociable, seated events where you can get quality advice and help on a wide range of services available. As well as giving reassuring safety and wellbeing support, the event includes an opportunity to meet other residents in your area, safety related freebies and representatives from a variety of agencies giving advice on the services they offer. Saturday 1st August – Arcade and West Alley Day

Tuesday 22nd December – A Christmas Carol

Returning to Hitchin Town Hall, Brand Street, Hitchin, SG5 1HX, this is ‘A Christmas Carol’ as Charles Dickens performed it himself, drawn directly from his original reading script. Through voice, presence and the power of Dickens’ unaltered words, a whole world unfolds – Scrooge’s chilly office, Fezziwig’s joyous party, the warmth of the Cratchit family, and the haunting visitation of the spirits. The simplicity becomes the magic: no adaptation, no modern reinterpretation, just the story as it thrilled audiences 183 years ago, brought vividly to life.
