Friday 5th June – Volunteer Fair
Taking place during Volunteer’s Week, the Hertfordshire Volunteer Fair offers you the chance to discover amazing local organisations, meet new people and find volunteering opportunities that make a real and direct difference to the community we live in. Friday 5th June from 10.30am – 3.30pm, at Hitchin Market Place.

Friday 5th June – Lego Club
Come along for fun challenges that build problem solving skills, spatial awareness, and creative thinking. Suitable for children aged 5-11 years old. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. The sessions are only for ages 5 and over. At Hitchin Library, Paynes Park, Hitchin, SG5 1EW. Places are limited, book the library. Fridays from 4pm – 5pm.

Struggling to share what’s on your mind? Join For Men To Talk. Walk, talk, and connect with men who understand. Meeting at the Cycle Shelter at Hitchin Train Station, Walsworth Road, Hitchin, SG4 9UL. Take a step for your mental health. Friday from 6pm. Welcoming the men of Hitchin from various ethnic backgrounds and promoting the mental and physical health benefits of walking and talking. Next 19th June.

Saturday 6th June – Churchyard Day
A showcase and celebration of Churchyard at 1A Churchyard, Hitchin SG5 1HR. With activities, offers and food and drink, this street day is full of wonderful businesses and activities for all to enjoy. Hitchin Rock Choir (3pm), The Corn Hill Alpacas, tours of the Church, Children’s entertainment, Swords of Penda – Children of Loki historical re-enactment. Food and drink, Monkey Music Hitchin, Shop Window Trail and Face painter. Saturday 6th June from 10am – 4pm.

Saturday 6th June – North Herts Pride Picnic
North Herts Pride Picnic on Saturday 6th June from 12 noon – 3pm. Bring a picnic to Windmil Hill, Hitchin, to celebrate pride. All Welcome.

Saturday 6th June – Energy Workshop
Free advice on reducing bills, questions about renewables and what is Community Energy. At Whitwell New Fellowship Hall, Bendish Lane, Whitwell, Hitchin, SG4 8HX. No need to book, just come along and talk to them in a friendly, confidential, no pressure environment. Saturday 6th June from 1pm – 3pm and Wednesday 10th June from 4pm – 6pm.

On now until – Saturday 6th June – Hitchin Beer and Cider Festival
The 2026 festival takes place on Thursday 4th – Saturday 6th June at Hitchin Rugby Club, Old Hale Way, Hitchin, SG5 1XL. Thursday 5pm – 11pm. Friday 12 noon – 11pm and Saturday 12 noon – 10pm. A total of around 200 beers, ciders, perries and meads will be available served from the marquee. Photography and possibly filming is taking place at this event for promotional and archival purposes. If you would prefer not to be photographed please let the photographer know.

Sunday 7th June – Pinehill Junior Parkrun
A free, fun, and friendly weekly 2k event for juniors 4-14 year olds. The event takes place at Pinehill Park, off Chiltern Road, Hitchin, SG4 9PL. Every week they grab a post parkrun coffee in a local café. Sundays from 9am. For further information click here

Sunday 7th June – Flea Market
Hitchin Market every Sunday from 6am – 1pm. A great Car Boot alternative. Free to visit and open to anyone to trade at just £10 a pitch. Great facilities on site and free parking nearby. Next to St Mary’s Church.

Monday 8th June – General Knowledge Pub Quiz
General knowledge pub quiz at The Orange Tree, Stevenage Road, Hitchin, SG4 9DR. Every Monday from 8pm – 10pm, until at least the end of May.

Tuesday 9th June – Chatty Cafe
The ‘Chatter and Natter table’ is a wonderful way of encouraging people of all ages to talk to others. Do come along and sit for a chat. At North Hertfordshire Museum, Brand Street, Hitchin, SG5 1JE. Their chatter and natter table is available during all of their cafe opening hours which are Tuesday- Saturday 10.30am – 3.30pm and 11am – 2pm on Sundays.

Wednesday 10th June – Brush Party
Join Brush Party, the UK’s ‘Paint and Sip’ experts at The Old Red Lion, Kings Walden Road, Great Offley, Hitchin, SG5 3DZ, on Wednesday 10th June from 7pm – 10pm to create their fabulous theme Rainbow Bay. To book click here

Thursday 11th June – LGBTQ+ Group
Monthly get together for LGBTQ+ people of all ages, genders and sexualities. Queers and Peers Group is specifically for Hitchin people who identify as LGBTQ+. Second Thursday of the month from 7pm – 9pm, at North Herts Museum, Brand Street, (Confirmed guests only must be registered), Hitchin, SG5 1BG.

Sunday 14th June – Summer Fete
An afternoon of family fun and community spirit at Fairfield Park Lower School, Dickens Boulevard, Hitchin, SG5 4FD. With performances to entertain all, Classic PTA fete games, exciting raffle prizes, delicious food and drinks, and fun with bouncy castles and more. Sunday 14th June from 12 noon – 3pm.

North Hertfordshire Museum, Brand Street, Hitchin, SG5 1JE, benefits from the hard work of lots of other people in different roles, some working with the public and some behind the scenes, all striving to bring their programme of exhibitions and events to life. This exhibition brings their voice to you, where they will, in their own words, tell you all about the objects that inspire them from around the museum. This exhibition is in the Arches Display Space in their Terrace Gallery. Open Tuesday – Saturday, 10.30am – 4.30pm, Sunday 11am – 3pm. On until Sunday 14th June.

Wednesday 24th June – Open Paddock Night
Come and join a peaceful evening, hand-feed friendly alpacas, watch the sunset from the field, perfect photo moments (they love selfies). Relax, unwind, and soak it all in at Mill Farm Barns, Charlton Road, Charlton, Hitchin, SG5 2AE. Entry: £3.50 per person. Alpaca feed bags: £1.50 each. Wednesday 24th June from 8pm – 9.30pm. Saturday 27th June – Vegan Market
As usual, this event will bring together an incredible selection of vegan street food vendors, artisan bakers, ethical jewellers, environmental charities and more. At Riverside, Hitchin, SG5 1AB. Saturday 27th June from 10.30am – 4pm.

Saturday 27th June – Rainbow Craft Fair
Regular craft fair held at Church House, Hitchin, SG5 1HP. Each event has a variety of craft stall holders. Saturday 28th March from 11am – 4pm, free entry. Next 27th June.

Sunday 28th June – Hitchin Symphony Orchestra: Children’s Concert
Hitchin Symphony Orchestra will be performing a Children’s Concert on an animal theme. On Sunday 28th from 12 noon – 1pm and 2pm – 3pm at The British Schools Museum, Queen Street, Hitchin, SG4 9TS. This fun and informal concert is designed for children and their families, featuring accessible and short orchestral classics on an animal theme. Music will include extracts from The Carnival of the Animals and much more. Children are invited to bring a cuddly toy along to enjoy the performance. During the concert children can sit on the floor at the front for a close-up view of the musicians. There will also be an opportunity to join the orchestra on stage for one of the pieces. Tickets are £10 per adult and £5 per child. Under 3s are free. Craft activities will be available at the Café Museum from 30 minutes before the first concert and between the two concerts. On now until – Sunday 28th June – Dinosaurium: Reimagined Creatures Exhibition
This exhibition looks at the long history of our relationship with dinosaurs, from ancient legends of mythical winged beasts in the deserts of central Asia, to the creatures brought to life in Jurassic Park. Visitors can also learn about the animals that lived alongside the dinosaurs and are still here today, and discover the passion and dedication of the fossil hunters in this fun, family-friendly exhibition. Wednesday 1st – Sunday 19th July – FIFA World Cup: Match Screenings
Join Hitchin Town Hall, Brand Street, Hitchin, SG5 1HX, as they bring the excitement of the World Cup to the big screen. Come together with fellow fans to cheer on every England match in a lively and welcoming atmosphere. Enjoy free entry for all, with families encouraged to attend and soak up the action. Matches will be shown on their large screen, so you will not miss a single moment, whether it is a last minute goal or a decisive penalty. Saturday 4th July – Supper and Ghost Hunt
An unforgettable night of ghost hunting at The Sun Hotel. This 16th century coaching inn has welcomed travellers for centuries, but some say not all of it’s guests have ever checked out. With it’s ancient timber beams, winding staircases, and dimly lit corridors, The Sun Hotel provides the perfect backdrop for a truly immersive paranormal investigation. Over the years, guests and staff have reported unexplained cold spots, phantom footsteps echo though the empty hallways and objects mysteriously move. Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th July – Wartime at Walden
A grand WWII spectacle has been meticulously planned for Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th July. Attendees can look forward to immersive re-enactments, fascinating displays, and engaging activities that bring the wartime era to life. They will have living history encampments, military and civilian vehicles alongside WW2 model clubs and a selection of other wartime era displays.
Be part of this groundbreaking WWII living history event in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, offering vast spaces for encampments, impressive vehicle displays, and captivating demonstrations. There will be a dramatic battle re-enactment on both Saturday and Sunday, and evening entertainment, including a beer tent for the evening.

Tuesday 7th July – Always Invited
Drop in to Hitchin Library, Paynes Park, Hitchin, SG5 1EW, on the first Tuesday of every month from 10.30am – 12 noon for a chat, make new friends over tea, coffee, biscuits and various activities.

Saturday 11th July – Comic Con and Toy Fair
A fun family friendly event full of all things film, comics, movie cars and artwork on display, trader area, cosplay, face painting and much more. Discover rare collectibles and meet fellow film and comic fans. Also come along to meet local talented artists and comic creators. There’s something here for everyone. They welcome you to come in costume and celebrate your favourite fandoms. Hitchin Comic Con is Sponsored by Worcester Lloyd Architects, Structural Engineers and Interior Designers. Saturday 11th July – Oakfest Fun Day
A full day of family fun, live entertainment, and something for everyone to enjoy. Free entry. Live circus shows throughout the day, live music, performances and DJ sets, artisan market and independent traders, great food and drink for all ages. Inflatables, activities and family fun. Also a spectacular family circus show by Circus Pazaz. Expect aerial acts, acrobatics, juggling, comedy and plenty of audience interaction in a 55-minute performance the whole family can enjoy. Saturday 11th July – Pirton Summer Fair
This year’s fair has a lively World Cup 2026 Summer Special feel, with plenty for the whole family to enjoy, including Samba Band, Football Freestyler, Live Music, Tug of War, Stalls, Food and Bar, Family Fun. Entry is £4 for adults and free for under 18s. Come along, bring the family, meet friends, enjoy the atmosphere and make the most of a proper Pirton summer afternoon. Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July – Big Art Fair
Join Herts Visual Arts at Hitchin Town Hall, Brand Street, Hitchin, SG5 1HX, as 60 artists come together to celebrate a decade of creativity, contemporary art and local talent. Taking place during the Hitchin Arts Festival, Big Art Fair is the perfect opportunity to discover and purchase original artwork direct from the artists themselves, with something to suit all tastes, styles and budgets. Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July from 10am – 4pm. Browse an inspiring selection of paintings, prints, ceramics, jewellery and glass.

Monday 20th July – Monday 31st August – Hitchin Beach
The ever popular beach will be back on the Market Place for six weeks during the summer holidays! Running Monday 20th July – Monday 31st August from 10am – 4pm. Sands, buckets and spades, music and deck chairs will turn this part of Hitchin into the seaside. An exciting addition to this year’s Hitchin Beach is the free Hitchin Beach Time Stories sessions every Friday morning. These interactive story sessions are perfect for pre-school children to enjoy with their parent/carer and will be delivered by the wonderful teams from Hitchin Library and Next Page Books.

Saturday 25th July – Letchworth Model Railway Society
Annual Exhibition at the Priory School, Bedford Road, Hitchin, SG5 2UR. Saturday 25th July from 10am – 4.30pm. Many traders and layouts. Free on-site parking. Admission £5. Accompanied children under 16 free entry. Refreshments and at the club sales stand.

Tuesday 28th July – Older Persons Activity, Learning and Safety
Older persons activity, learning and safety (OPALS) events are sociable, seated events where you can get quality advice and help on a wide range of services available. As well as giving reassuring safety and wellbeing support, the event includes an opportunity to meet other residents in your area, safety related freebies and representatives from a variety of agencies giving advice on the services they offer. Saturday 26th September – Ghost Hunt
Hitchin holds a unique place in the history of education as it boasts the world’s last remaining purpose-built Monitorial schoolroom. The grade II* listed building opened in 1837, but the school was founded in 1810, a full 80 years before the government finally provided free elementary education for all. With past and present exhibits it is a fantastic location to investigate. Included are seances, Ouija Board, Table Tipping, Human Pendulum, Ghost Hunting Equipment, refreshments and more. Saturday 3rd October – British Schools Museum Ghost Hunt
Experience a night of ghost hunting at the British Schools Museum, Hitchin, with Ghost Hunt Events on Saturday 3rd October from 8pm – 2am. Participate in Séances, Vigils, Table tilting, Glass moving, Ouija boards, EVP Experiments, Automatic writing and much more. This is a serious overnight ghost hunt (paranormal investigation), and is conducted with a team of professional Mediums and paranormal investigators. They pride their selves on having small groups for each activity (usually three or four) and allowing you free time to explore the venue using some of the equipment towards the end of the night.
They can not guarantee spiritual or ghostly activity but they can guarantee that everything you experience will be 100% real.

Tuesday 22nd December – A Christmas Carol
Returning to Hitchin Town Hall, Brand Street, Hitchin, SG5 1HX, this is ‘A Christmas Carol’ as Charles Dickens performed it himself, drawn directly from his original reading script. Through voice, presence and the power of Dickens’ unaltered words, a whole world unfolds – Scrooge’s chilly office, Fezziwig’s joyous party, the warmth of the Cratchit family, and the haunting visitation of the spirits. The simplicity becomes the magic: no adaptation, no modern reinterpretation, just the story as it thrilled audiences 183 years ago, brought vividly to life.
