Friday 17th May – Knit and Natter

A chance for people to chat and knit, stitch, sew or craft, over a tea or coffee. At St Albans Library, Level 2, The Maltings, St Albans, AL1 3JQ. Every Friday from 2pm – 3.30pm.


Saturday 18th May – St Albans Parkrun

A free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event, every Saturday from 9am. The event takes place at Verulamium Park, St. Albans. For further information click here


Saturday 18th May – Compassionate Cafe

Compassionate Cafés ​are drop-in sessions in a local venue or with a local partner. They provide a space for members of our community who have been affected by any type of loss and would like to come along for a friendly chat and a chance to meet others over a cup of tea. Every third Saturday from 10.30am – 12 noon. At Café on the Corner, 39 Catherine Street, St Albans, AL3 5BJ.


Sunday 19th May – Compost Giveaway

Compost Giveaway Sunday 19th May from 7.30 at the Veolia depot, Ronsons Way, St Albans, AL4 9 XR (beyond the Household waste centre). The compost is loose so bring a shovel and some bags- up to 5 per car.


Sunday 19th May – Harpenden Sustainability Market

The Harpenden Sustainability Markets features local eco and food stalls to help you live a more sustainable life. The markets can be found on Harpenden Common, on the tree-lined, shady side of the common in front of Park Hall. Sunday 17th March from 10am -3pm. Next is 21st July, 14th September, 17th November.


Monday 20th May – Memory Cafe

The Harpenden Memory Lane Café is open every Monday from 2pm – 3.30pm (with the exception of Bank Holidays) at The Salvation Army on Leyton Green in Harpenden. Please note that if you would like to come along to the cafe you do not have to take part in the activities, you are welcome to join us for just refreshments and conversation if you prefer


Monday 20th May – LEGO Club

Join Harpenden Library, 27 High Street, Harpenden, AL5 2RU. On the second Monday of every month from 3.45pm – 4.45pm.


Tuesday 21st May – Job Fair

The Inclusive Job Fair is aimed towards adults with learning and physical disabilities, sensory needs, neurodiversity and mental health conditions. This event is free for Hertfordshire residents to attend and you can book your place on Eventbrite. Booking is not essential but is advised as spaces are limited for each slot. Note that there is a low sensory hour between 12 noon – 1pm with a limit of 50 tickets available and you must book a ticket to be allowed entry during this slot. Tuesday 21st May – Little Angels Playgroup

St Albans Salvation Army Little Angels Playgroup is back Tuesdays from 9.30am – 11am. Term time only. At St Albans Salvation Army,16-18 Victoria Street, St Albans, AL1 3JB.


Tuesday 21st May – Community Cafe

Come along for tea, cake, conversation and more every Tuesday from 10am – 12 noon, at Cottonmill Community Centre, off Old Oak, Cottonmill Lane, St Albans, AL1 2EF.


Tuesday 21st May – IT Champion Available for Digital Help

IT Champions offer one-to-one support, problem-solving, and online safety advice for users of the library computers and WiFi. Every Tuesday from 10.30am – 12.30pm. At St Albans Library, Level 2, The Maltings, St Albans, AL1 3JQ.


Wednesday 22nd May – Chatty Cafe

The Queen of Herts, 71 High Street, Redbourn, St Albans, AL3 7LW, have joined The Chatty Café Scheme the UK’s leading non-profit organisation tackling loneliness. Face to face meet ups where venues offer Chatter and Natter tables, where customers can get together and chat. Many tables are hosted by Chatty Table Volunteers. Come and support this on Wednesday from 11am – 1pm.


Wednesday 22nd May – Board Games for Adults

Board Games Group every Wednesday from 1pm – 3pm. Friendly drop-in session, no experience required, come and learn a new game, at Hatfield Library, White Lion Square, 26-32 Town Centre, Hatfield, AL10 0LD.


Thursday 23rd May – Baby Group

Meet other families with young babies in a supportive, stimulating and friendly environment. During the free 90 minute session there will be time for babies to play, discover more about their development and support your wellbeing as a new parent. Thursday 23rd May – Baby Rhyme Time

Fun, half hour sessions of songs and rhymes are perfect for helping your child to learn language skills and are an opportunity for you to meet other families too. Every Thursday from 10.30am, at Marshalswick Library, The Baton, The Ridgeway, St Albans, AL4 9TU.


Thursday 23rd – Monday 27th May – Funfair

Abbotts Funfair will be back at Harpenden Common on Thursday 23rd – Monday 27th May with exciting rides and attractions.


Friday 24th May – Music at St Leonard’s

This months concert is the first of its kind for Music at St Leonard’s. On this evening, two of the world’s foremost violinists come to Flamstead to perform by invitation of Dr Jan Telensky. The programme will include well known classics including J.S. Bach’s much loved concerto for two violins alongside works by Shostakovich and Szymanowski in this rare recital arranged by their sponsor Jan Telensky. Friday 24th May, doors open at 6.30pm. Sunday 26th May – Farmers’ Market

Harpenden Farmers’ Market takes place on the 4th Sunday of the month from 10am – 2pm and is run and organised by Harpenden Town Council. The Farmers’ Market accommodates approximately 70 stalls and each market finds a huge selection of produce available.


Sunday 26th May – Jazz in Clarence Park

The New River Dixielanders Trad Jazz and Dixieland Band will be performing in Clarence Park, St Albans, on Sunday 26th May from 2pm – 4pm. This open-air celebration of Jazz is free for all to enjoy. For further information click here


Friday 31st May – Sunday 2nd June – Foodies Festival

Join Oaklands College for the Foodies Festival, bringing the UK’s biggest food festival featuring top chefs, tasty food, delicious drinks and live music to St Albans. New attractions for 2024 include a family friendly silent disco, a fun cook school and an awesome fire pit. Friday 7th – Sunday 9th June – Sustainability Festival

The celebrated Sustainability Festival begins with the very first SustFest Expo, the headline event of this year’s programme. The organisers have brought together a weekend of workshops, speakers, exhibitors, presentations, and activities for all. These will showcase everything from sustainable fashion to the harnessing of nature’s powers for good, alongside shopping opportunities, learning zones and plenty more besides. 

A variety of organisations will be present, details of which will be announced via the Sustainable St Albans website and SustFest social media platforms as they are confirmed over the coming weeks. The Sustainable St Albans ‘SustFest’ Expo 2024 will be at The Alban Arena, Civic Centre, St Peter’s Street, St Albans, AL1 3LD, from Friday 7th – Sunday 9th June, free to attend and the events are aimed at the whole community. 


Saturday 8th June – Harpenden Carnival

Come along and join in the fun at the Harpenden Carnival on Saturday 8th June from 12 noon – 6pm. This exciting event is free to enter and presents an action-packed programme of entertainment and activities for all. Further details will be announced soon.


Tuesday 11th June – How to Improve Your Own Health and Wellbeing

Do you want to take more responsibility for your own health and wellbeing? Want to discover the latest trends, insights and new ideas from knowledgeable experts and practitioners? Get involved and come along to these events with Harpenden Complementary Health. They bring together public and practitioners in complementary health and personal development, in inspiring, informative yet fun monthly events. Every second Tuesday from 9.30am until at least June 2025. At The Plough and Harrow, 88 Southdown Road, Harpenden, AL5 1PR.  Refreshments included. Only £5 on the door.


Saturday 29th June – Oakfest: Summer Family Festival and Funfair

Oakfest is not just another festival. it is a whirlwind of excitement, entertainment, and extreme fun. et ready to dance the day away with an electrifying line up of local bands and singers, playing all day on our main stage, come and see their funfair with rides for all the family. Indulge your taste buds with mouth watering delights and tantalizing treats from their array of food stalls, catering to every craving. Saturday 6th July – Sunday 7th July – Redbourn Festival

Sunday 7th July – Vegan Market

The St Albans Vegan Market is back at St Peter’s Street, as usual, the event will bring together a variety of vegan street food vendors, artisan bakers, craft brewers, ethical jewellers, local artists, zero-waste champions and loads more. Sunday 7th April from 10.30am – 4pm. Next 1st September and 3rd November.


Saturday 31st August – Redbourn Classics Motor Show

A great day for the whole family, with 300+ classic vehicles, live music by The Barn-ettes and Missing the Ferry, delicious street food, a licensed bar, village stalls, children’s funfair and a miniature steam railway. There is no need to pre-book, but they welcome donations for their local charities at the gates on the day. The 7th Redbourn Classics is on Saturday 31st August from 12 noon – 5pm on Redbourn Common, near St Albans AL3 7BU.
